Relais de Camont
A Quiet Place to Work… in Southwest France.
Over the last 30 years, artists, writers, photographers, filmmakers, chefs, and dreamers have found their inspiration at Camont, Kate Hill’s 18th-century Farmhouse in Gascony, France. In 2022, Kate opened her home for creative residents and offers residency stays and mentored retreats at the Relais de Camont.
Women-only residencies are available upon request; check the “Women at Work” box on the application form.

What is a Residency?
Residencies are for those seeking a less structured yet inspiring and productive environment in which to work. You work at your own pace, on your own projects, while sharing common social space and time in the kitchen, salon, studio, and gardens with other residents. Residents cook for themselves as they please, and most residencies are for a minimum of two weeks.
We find that our residents work best when they surrender themselves to the quiet and slow pace of life at Camont—morning or evening walks along the canal, quiet work time throughout the day, and early nights. When we say The Relais de Camont is a “quiet place to work,” we value and prioritize your productivity above all else.
How do I apply, and when?
Self-funded Residencies can be applied for year-round for individuals and small groups up to four. Complete the application requesting open dates at any time. (see 2026 calendar)
Three Chambre/Studios in the Relais
Charm and Comfort. There are three spacious and comfortable en-suite bedroom studios. 1. Le Bleu Moon and 2. Orion’s Nest are both upstairs in the pigeonnier tower looking over the gardens. 3. L’Atelier is above the barn apartment and includes access to a large open skylit studio. Each room has a double bed, private bathroom (#1 has a tub or and the other two-#2 & #3 have showers), a writing desk, high-speed WiFi access; with ceiling fans and windows facing the gardens and central heating, the rooms are pleasant and comfortable from long summer days through cozy winter nights.
Residency Rates 2026
2026 Calendar Dates
Two weeks- 1750€ per person if booked before Nov 29 2025; 1850€ for 2026 residencies booked after Dec 1 2025.
Residency Rates are based on two weeks stays (14 days/13 nights) per person and include a comfortable private bedroom/studio with an ensuite bathroom and desk; shared living spaces including a kitchen and reading salon, gardens and park. There is high-speed WiFi throughout the house. A large upstairs studio space is available for shared use for painting, printmaking, and other projects needing more room beyond a writer’s desk. Reservations for exclusive use of this studio can be made at the time of booking.
Residents share the large kitchen and are responsible for their own meals. Usually there is a convivial kitchen atmosphere at meal times and residents are encouraged to share. Kate makes her garden—vegetables, herbs, fruit, and flowers available for all to harvest; any help maintaining the garden is always welcomed and rewarded with a glass of cold Rosé. Food shopping is organized a couple times a week to both village farmer’s markets and local supermarkets.
Self-funded residents are responsible for and pay (or may seek funding) for their residency fees, travel, transportation, food, and expenses. Letters of invitation for funding may be supplied upon request. The Relais de Camont is not supported by other funding. A 50% non-refundable deposit is required to reserve dates. See the cancellation policy on booking form for more details.
There are three studios/chambres: Chambre 1. Le Bleu Moon and Chambre 2. Orion’s Nest are located in the Relais's pigeonnier tower. Chamber 3. Where are we? Gascony in Southwest France!
Relais de Camont in her Summer dress.
Our French neighborhood, nestled alongside the Canal de Garonne, is surrounded by small villages and rural farming and is just 3h20m from Paris’ Gare Montparnasse; Bordeaux and Toulouse train stations are 1h15m away; and Camont is 20 minutes from Agen (pop. 45K) and its TGV train station—Gare d’Agen on the direct fast train line from Paris to Toulouse.
The Relais de Camont sits between a quiet country lane and a shady, grassy towpath at the garden gate for long walks and a paved bicycling lane on the other side of the canal.
Boulangeries, supermarchés, pharmacies, La Poste, and many village cafés are but a 10-15 minute bike ride away in the neighboring villages of Brax and Serignac. Village farmer’s markets and farmstands are within an easy drive from Camont, and together we shop for food, have a coffee, and meet the neighbors, a couple of times a week.
