Camont is an 18th-Century French Farmhouse & Jardins in Gascony.
This is Where the Magic Happens.
The neighbors call it Paradis. Once a working Garonne River Valley 18th-century farm, Camont later welcomed travellers as a canal barge relais or inn before becoming a cooking school and homeport to American writer and cook Kate Hill. Now, international creative residents come to create, work, and just breathe in its charming stone and brick rooms set in one-acre of trees and garden.
The Kitchen is now dedicated to resident’s use with its antique kitchen tables, wood-stove hearth, and staircase cookbook library. Cooking is a pleasure in Camont’s kitchen with a battery of good knives and tools, a new Smeg stove and oven, large modern refrigerator, and charming dishes, serving platters, silver, linens, and colorful tableware.
The Reading Salon invites you to curl onto one of two comfy couches and read from our own diverse TBR library or share a glass of wine with your fellow residents. Outside the front door is the large round oak terrace table that seats eight under a shady awning next to the banana tree forest. There is other garden furniture that can be placed wherever you choose.
The Potager Garden & Shady Oak Park surround the living areas and extends the shared spaces outside with a harvest of herbs, flowers, and vegetables all through the year. La Cabane is an off-grid studio space for our working residence helpers.
The Canal de Garonne Towpath invites you to walk a linear labyrinth of Poplar trees stretching between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea—a perfect call to walk for 10 minutes, an hour or longer.
Be a part of Camont's evolution. There's a lovely narrative in a place that has always gathered creative, curious people around a table, and has now expanded that tradition to include writers, artists, photographers, and scholars.
